Visiting Quito

The capital city of Quito has 1.5 million inhabitants and is situated in the Andes Mountain range at an altitude of 9,300 feet (2.800 metres) above sea level. Quito has a spring-like climate year-round and is divided into an old, southern colonial part and a modern, northern section. Today’s city was built on the ruins of the old city of Quito, one of the capitals of the Inca Empire. Quito was declared a Cultural Patrimony of Mankind site by the UNESCO.
